What's in a Name?

So why did we name her Cassidy Nicole?

Cause we liked it! We were looking for a strong (yet feminine), offbeat (yet not weird) name. And we didn't want to have her go through life with "Now how do you spell that?"...

From "The New Age Baby Name Book":

Cassidy
Irish: "ingenious and clever" or "curly-haired". A traditional boys' name in Ireland, this is used more commonly for girls in the United States.

Nicole
Greek: "victorious army" or "victorious people." The feminine form of Nicholas.

One of the reasons that "Cassidy" had such a positive connotation for me is that it's the name of a groovin' Grateful Dead song :)

A particularly fitting excerpt from "Cassidy" by John Perry Barlow:

Ah, child of countless trees.
Ah, child of boundless seas.
What you are, what you're meant to be
Speaks his name, though you were born to me,
Born to me,
Cassidy...

For the story behind the song (it's actually pretty cool), go here.
